The Ultimate Cheat Sheet on Pilates

Get to Class Early
If it's your first class the extra time allows you to get settled in, find your mat, talk to the instructor, address any injuries or anxieties you may have, and just let yourself feel comfortable in the space.
BREATHE.
When things get difficult your breath will get you through it. When the burn in the muscles starts to get uncomfortable take a deep breath. If you don't the last time you took a deep breath....take a deep breath. The breath is a nice long refreshing shower for the body.
Belly Up and In Towards the Spine.
When you start to see mountain ridges and valleys in your abdominal muscles think about pulling your belly button up and in towards your spine. You'll activate your deep core muscles and those deep muscles are what Pilates is all about.
Every Move is Your Favorite Move.
When it gets tough just think about how that exercise....that move...that hold... that pulse is your favorite. The positive thinking will help to push you through to the end....because really the end is your favorite :)
BREATHE
We can't stress it enough. Your breath is your life force. You get stronger and you move more easily when you take deep breaths.
Shoulders Away from the Ears.
Let the tension just melt away from the shoulders. Our shoulders love to creep up towards our ears when things get tough. Every time you notice this happening just think about relaxing the shoulders and feel the shoulder blades pull down towards your back pockets.
Rock It. Crush It.
Push away those doubts. You are strong and you got this. An arm has never fallen off during push-ups and a leg has never fallen off during side leg lifts. You are stronger than you think are, so show that Pilates class what you got.
