Keri's Two-Year Teaching Anniversary!

This month is a very special month full of teaching anniversaries and landmarks for the Green Bird instructors. This month marks Keri's TWO YEAR TEACHING ANNIVERSARY. Can't believe it's been two years of Keri kicking your booty at the barre and on the mat.

I am so thankful for such an enthusiastic and passionate team of instructors. I'm honored to be able to call them all friends. Keri is always a shining light of smiles, sweetness, and positivity (even when you want to kill her for holding you in a plank for so long). I asked Keri a few questions to reflect back on her last two years of teaching at Green Bird Fitness and you can read her answers below.

Love you Keri and thank you for everything you do!

1) What is/are your 1-2 favorite memories of teaching classes at Green Bird?

One of my best memories was when we were still at the little house, and I had a client that was a regular in my early AM Pilates class. She was just getting back into working out, but as she continued to come to GB, it was amazing to see her getting stronger and more confident with each class. She was also going through a very difficult time in her personal life, and I would always try to ask her how she was doing and encourage her. I remember her hugging me after class one time and telling me that I had changed her life. I realized that we are more than fitness instructors to a lot of our clients, and we have the ability to positively impact their lives beyond just being physically fit.

A second memory that sticks with me is shortly after moving into the new studio and we were still figuring out the electricity issues. We ended up losing power in the middle of barre class, so I told everyone just to keep pulsing while I ran outside in the rain to flip the breaker. Most of them were still in 4th position when I came back – that was probably the longest set of pulses we’ve ever done. 😊

2) What are 2-3 big things you learned from your experience teaching classes and/or training to teach classes?

The biggest thing I’ve learned through teaching is to just be yourself. I love that all of the instructors at Green Bird have different personalities and teaching styles, and we aren’t all trying to conform to a certain image or persona…we keep it real!

I’ve also learned that as an instructor you have to adapt and sometimes just go with the flow. In spite of how much you prepare, things don’t always go as planned. I’ve found that it’s been the curve balls that have helped me to grow and improve as an instructor the most.

Lastly, I’ve learned that we have the ability as an instructor to make a difference in people’s lives - even in just an hour - so it’s important to provide the best experience possible for clients. While our goal is to challenge them physically and give them a good workout, sometimes clients are there because they need an outlet or a little escape from the outside world. They may just need a smile or a hug or someone to vent to about life while they work out to awesome music for an hour.

3) What do you love most about the Green Bird clients?

I love that our clients are just REAL people. We have such a great mix of ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels, and I just love interacting and connecting with them, while also challenging them to push themselves beyond their perceived limitations. Everyone is so accepting and encouraging of each other – it really is like a family. I’ve made awesome friends at Green Bird, and it’s been really cool to see how far our clients have come in the last 2 years. I also have to give props to my 5am Green Birds who consistently show up to work hard before the sun comes up. They are awesome!

4) What are favorite song or songs right now?

“Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd and “Flames” by Sia & David Guetta. Also, I’m not a huge fan of musicals, but I am really digging the soundtrack from “The Greatest Showman.” I’ve subjected most of my classes in the past 2 weeks to one track or another from the movie LOL.
