Meet Lara: June Green Bird of the Month!

We're highlighting Lara this month because she's shown so much dedication and grit over the past few months. Lara comes to classes at least 4-5 times a week and it shows. She's gained strength, flexibility, and endurance with each class completed. Lara is also a hilarious and fun gal. She's living proof that if you believe you're a back-up dancer for Beyonce then you can do anything. Read below to learn more about Lara!

Where are you from? If you’re from outside of Texas what brought you to Texas?
I was born in Austin but we moved to the Bay Area when I was 8 years old. I was always drawn to Austin and moved back in my early 20’s after college. I think I was brain washed with Texas pride from an early age. Texans love putting the Texas flag on everything and I remember we had to sing “Deep in the Heart of Texas” a lot in school when I was growing up so I think it was drilled into my head that Texas was the best place to live and then of course the best city in Texas is Austin!
What’s your day job?
Most of my energy goes to raising 3 humans but in my spare time I teach yoga and meditation to adolescent girls through a program I created called Girl Prana.
Do you have a personal motto or something to keep you motivated when things get tough?
“Keep it light so you can handle the heavy,” is a motto I like to use because even when you feel like things aren’t going your way, it’s probably not that bad. There’s always something to be grateful for. As far as staying motivated during those tougher GB classes, I usually pretend I’m one of Beyoncé’s backup dancers preparing for her world tour. It works amazingly well. #beychella
If you could have a dinner party with any famous people, living or dead, who would they be?
I think it would be interesting to have a dinner party with all of the divas like Mariah Carey, Arthetha Franklin, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Diana Ross, Cher, Madonna, Beyonce, etc. But the people I really want to hang with are Oprah, Neal deGrasse Tyson, Dolly Parton, Jimmy Fallon, Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams and Bill Murray.
How does Green Bird Fitness help you keep you in shape and move?
Being a yoga practitioner for so long I was searching for a different way to work out. I had always wanted to try Pilates and Barre so I gave GB a shot and I’m so happy I did. The workouts are fun, upbeat and challenging. I love the energy and enthusiasm all of the instructors bring to their classes. Lauren’s vault of pop culture knowledge is super impressive and I find myself laughing and dancing as much as I do sweating and cursing to myself.
What’s your favorite 90s jam?
It’s a 3 way tie.... George Michael “Freedom” Deeelite “Grove is in the Heart” Madonna “Vogue” (Coincidently all released in 1990!!!)
Where is your favorite place to travel to?
Tulum, Mexico
What’s your favorite “treat yoself” thing to do when stress gets high?
I like to just veg out and watch this show on YouTube called, “Hot Ones”. The concept is this guy interviews celebrities while they both eat hot wings covered with different hot sauces that sequentially get hotter as the interview goes on. It’s hilarious and really shows people’s true colors.
What’s the last good book you read?
Grown up book: A Man Called Ove Children’s Book: A Bear’s Song
What’s the funniest thing to happen to you lately?
Ok this actually happened today. I usually attend the 8:15am classes and this morning I quickly threw on a pair of pants out of the dryer. It wasn’t until 5 minutes before the class let out that I realized I had a pair of underwear wadded up behind my knee inside my pant leg. I wonder if Lauren thought I had some kind of new growth on the back of my leg!
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. Which color would you be and why?
Bubbleyumbum least that’s what I’m going for.
